The term “Shastrokta Ashtavinayak” refers to the traditional, religiously prescribed sequence for visiting the eight revered Ganesha temples (Ashtavinayak) in Maharashtra, India. This sequence is based on religious scriptures and is considered the most auspicious way to perform the pilgrimage, according to Ashtavinayak Darshan. The traditional sequence begins at Moreshwar in Morgaon and ends with a return visit to Moreshwar, thus completing the circuit.
This sequence is believed to be the most spiritually rewarding way to complete the Ashtavinayak Yatra.
Here’s the traditional sequence:
- Moreshwar (Mayureshwar) at Morgaon: The pilgrimage begins here.
- Siddhivinayak at Siddhatek: This is the only temple where the deity has his trunk to the right, according to Wikipedia.
- Ballaleshwar at Pali:

- Girijatmaj at Lenyadri: The temple is located in the eighth cave among a set of Buddhist caves.

Day 01:
Early morning departure from Pune to Morgaon (Mayureshwar temple) on the way — breakfast. After darshan at Morgaon proceed towards the second Ganpati mandir which is at Siddhatek (Siddhivinayak). After darshan and Pradakshina at Siddhatek temple, proceed for lunch at Daund. After lunch proceed toward Pali (Ballaleshwar temple) which is in the Raigad District. Enroute evening tea. After darshan, dinner and overnight stay at Pali.
Day 02:
Early morning departure from Pali towards Mahad (Varad Vinayak temple) near Khopoli. After Darshan at Mahad have breakfast and proceed towards Theur near Pune (Theur – Chintamani temple). After darshan at Theur, enroute lunch and proceed towards Lenyadri. Evening tea at Lenyadri (Girijatmaj temple) which is situated on hills. After darshan, dinner and overnight stay at Lenyadri.
Day 03:
Early morning departure from Lenyadri towards Ozar. Ozar (Vignahar Ganpati). After darshan, breakfast and proceed towards Ranjangaon (Mahaganpati).
On reaching Ranjangaon visit the temple and after darshan have lunch and proceed towards Morgaon for completion of the Ashtavinayak tour according to the traditional order as described in the Puranas.
